US Senators Sanders and Boxer have proposed a bill that would levy $20 per tonne carbon tax on around 2,900 installations across the US. The tax would generate $1.3 trillion in revenue over 10-year period. Part of this revenue would be used for investment in renewable energy, rebates for households and debt reduction. The proposal is very similar to the carbon tax regime currently in practice in Australia.
